A branch community from Dragonspam
There are reports of people changing the codes of their eggs and hatchlings to redirect to a site other than DragCave. People have had viruses downloaded onto their computers from these sites. For your own safety, PLEASE hover over eggs and hatchlings before clicking them to make sure they link to DragCave. We cannot be held responsible for anything that happens if you click a non-DragCave link. However, we mods are responsible for dealing with people who change the codes. If you notice anyone who has done this, report them immediately. This kind of behavior is absolutely not tolerated.
Anyone who changes the codes of their dragons to go to a site other than DragCave, whether or not that site downloads malicious items onto people's computers, will be banned immediately, and will be reported to both LiveJournal and DragCave staff.

Yes, the name of the community is dragonspam, but we don't really WANT you to spam. This means one post per (roughly) 24 hours. If you're a couple hours early that's fine, but you can't post at, say, 11 PM and then a second time an hour later at 12 because it's a "new day". You are, however, free to edit previous posts to add more eggs to 'em.
2. PUT ALL SPRITES BEHIND AN LJ-CUT! This includes eggs, hatchlings, and 'egg incubators'. Having a page filled with sprites from a site that slows down every hour on the hour would end up having lots and lots of lag. Don't know how to make an lj-cut? Read the FAQ.
3. If you wish to show off your adult dragons, please post a link to your scroll. Do not post your adults along with your eggs and hatchlings, this makes clicking harder.
4. This should go without saying, but if you post eggs and hatchlings here to get clicks and views, you should click and view others' dragons too.
5. You may not post your scrolls, eggs, hatchlings, or links to your post containing these items in comments to other people's entries.
6. If a post to the community shows a remarkable lack of reading comprehension (ie, violates these rules), it'll probably get deleted. That's just the way it goes.
7. Only Dragcave eggs may be posted. This is not the place for sprites from other sites.
8. Please do not swear. There may be young kids posting their eggs here, so any posts or comments with swearing will be deleted.
9. Members are expected to read and familiarize themselves with dragoncave rules and terms of service. http://dragcave.net/terms
10. Any disrespect to any mod will lead to banishment. Also, anyone who sends a nasty-gram to the mods will be banned.

Hint: Use HTML mode when making an entry, not RichText!
Hint 2: Don't try to post using BBCode. Only HTML will work.

Thank you for pulling that link up so quickly.

Further, if we're going to go back to doing it this way, that's fine - but asking us to change entries that were posted before the rule was reinstated seems unnecessary.

I'm also more than a little put off by a "mod post" from someone who hasn't been active in this community in over a year:

Thank you for posting that link. I feel a little resentful at the rules being changed back so abruptly (since it was a mod post that said we could go un-cut, not just a phase of people being lazy).

Truth is, at the current activity level, having entries un-cuit does not hurt a) the comm, b) dragcave.net, or c) the individual dragons. There is not enough traffic for that. And having to click through the cut for each entry means that the dragons will get fewer views and fewer clicks, which is not useful for the dragons and also not good for the general health of the community.

It was the way things were before, but we didn't do anything wrong. A mod said we could.

RULES NEVER WERE CHANGED BY AN ACTUAL MOD. Otherwise the profile would have been updated. You feel resentfull?? Imagine how I feel.

Just a quick message that there was a try to contact mods with no avail about the lj-cut by one of the members.

We have very very low traffic/posting on this comm. It varies between less than 10 posts a day to at max 15 posts.

The only way to get viable views and clicks is to either leave this comm and find a more active one and leave the people we have created a comm with a lj-cut because even with no lj-cut I have to post my dragons at another comm to get enough views and clicks.

Just my two cents

Experimentation has shown me that I can successfully breed/hatch/mature dragons solely by posting them on Dragonnery...but I've been cutting it pretty close time-wise when I do so. The addition of this community gets me the extra push they need to avoid the ER.

I'll be disappointed if this goes back to a cut-tagged community.

None of the 'mods' have posted in over 3 months and I seem to remember that one mod posted with no lj-cut back in mid summer when the lj-cut was lifted. I'll go hunt down the posts.

I posted the link here. Anyway, we can go back, but we don't have to be scolded for doing what a mod said we could.

This was my problem. I don't mind the rule being changed back, but I do mind being scolded for something I was told I could do by a mod.

(nod) I agree. That is my problem too. I'm not a child, who needs to be scolded about not following rules. And a mod changed the rule.

I was here every day checking stuff but I rarely play DC and the fansites are enough to hatch my stuff so I didn't post here nor did I feel the need to spam you guys with the rules all the time. *shrugs* Since the others are back I'll be taking my exit now. :D

That was my mistake and I owe you an apology for adding you in the absent file. You did your best.

I imagine the people left the community because of people slowing it down by posting sprites not under a cut. Maybe if the rules would have been followed more than 10 to 15 posts a day would be up. We use to get over 100 when rules were being followed.

In all fairness, and this is NOT me getting at you, but you have it the wrong way round. The rule was relaxed - by a Mod - BECAUSE the community traffic had gone down so much, not how you put it. People actually haven't left the community - you only have to check the members list to realise that - but the number of posts made did go down dramatically - I would suggest in part because people stopped collecting sprites from the Dragon Cave and moved on.

I myself stopped posting my dragons here LONG before a Mod announced the relaxing of the rule, but I've still been clicking everything that's been posted here.

I cannot recall having seen more than 15 posts per day in the last 4 months, and this comm is on my friends page so I can click without having to go look for it. I do see more than 15 total from all the dragon egg type comms I watch on my LJ friends page, but posting in all of them has fallen off drastically in the last 6 months or so. Traffic is not down b/c the sprites were not under cuts; it was down long before that.

I quit catching and posting for a few weeks b/c with daily posts on two comms, one of which has never required cuts, my eggs were dying unhatched (but I did stealth-click even then, and kept an eye on the posts).

Continuation of a thought

I believe traffic is so low b/c people are moving on to the next fad, whatever it is. I know I'll play one game for a month or two and then move on; most other people do the same, with varying attention spans.
